the argument about a childs mental being undeveloped is so retarded as well
their brains are almost completely developed by age 5, are completely developed by age 26 but theyre given the choice to consent at 18

if we followed the "mental development" idea then noone should be having sex until theyre 25, which is right before the fertility decline. kids dont "understand" sex because sex is only made complicated through the extremely nuanced societal and cultural thought processes that come with it. animals dont value culture and they have sex all the time, and we dont stop them whether its unconsensual or statutory

Later studies have actually shown that the brain is never fully "mature" which by the logic of brain maturity = consent means sex should never be allowed period
